Series Summary:
Halloween reminds us of ghosts, shadows, and things that go bump in the night — but many of us carry haunted hearts every day.
Unresolved pain, fear, guilt, regret, and unforgiveness can keep us trapped in darkness, even when the light of God is near.
The Haunted Heart is a four-week, Halloween-themed series that explores how God delivers, heals, and restores hearts that have been haunted by the past. This series will help people confront their fears, break chains, and experience freedom in Christ.
Theme Scripture:
Isaiah 43:18–19
Week 1

Week 1 — “The Ghosts of the Past”

Scripture: Isaiah 43:18–19, Philippians 3:13–14, Psalm 147:3

Introduction

Many of us are haunted not by spirits, but by memories, regrets, and failures we can’t forget.

Key Point Ideas

  • God wants to help you let go of the past

  • Dwelling on failure keeps you from moving forward

  • Forgiveness of self and others breaks spiritual strongholds

  • God makes all things new when you release what haunts you

Application

  • Identify one area from your past that still holds you captive

  • Confess it to God and surrender it to Him

  • Take one step this week to make peace with the past

Closing Thoughts

The ghosts of yesterday only have power if you let them stay.
God offers freedom and new beginnings.

Week 2 — “Fear That Frightens”

Scripture: 2 Timothy 1:7, Isaiah 41:10, Psalm 27:1

Introduction

Fear can haunt your heart, even when there’s no real danger.
It whispers lies, paralyzes decisions, and steals your joy.

Key Point Ideas

  • Fear is a spirit, but God gives a spirit of power, love, and self-control

  • Faith silences fear by focusing on God’s promises

  • Courage isn’t the absence of fear; it’s trusting God in the midst of it

  • God fights for those who trust Him

Application

  • Identify fears that hold you back

  • Replace fear with Scripture declarations

  • Take one bold step of faith this week

Closing Thoughts

Fear loses its power when you fix your eyes on Jesus.

Week 3 — “Un-forgiveness and Shadows”

Scripture: Matthew 6:14–15, Colossians 3:13, Ephesians 4:31–32

Introduction

Unforgiveness is like a shadow that follows you — silent, unseen, but heavy.

Key Point Ideas

  • Harboring resentment keeps your heart haunted

  • Forgiveness releases the chains on both you and the offender

  • God’s grace covers every hurt

  • Letting go brings light and peace into your soul

Application

  • Pray for someone you’ve struggled to forgive

  • Release bitterness and resentment through God’s power

  • Walk in reconciliation where possible

Closing Thoughts

The shadows fade when forgiveness shines light into your heart.

Week 4 — “Freedom From the Haunting”

Scripture: John 8:36, Romans 8:1–2, 2 Corinthians 5:17

Introduction

God didn’t call you to live haunted — He calls you to freedom, joy, and new life.

Key Point Ideas

  • Freedom is available through Christ

  • The past, fear, and unforgiveness are defeated in Him

  • A renewed heart transforms how you live, love, and lead

  • God’s Spirit empowers you to walk in victory daily

Application

  • Declare your freedom in Christ over your heart and mind

  • Commit to walking forward, not looking back

  • Share your story of victory to encourage others

Closing Thoughts

A haunted heart becomes a healed heart when you surrender it to God.
He turns fear into faith, shadows into light, and chains into wings.
