Series Summary:
Understanding God’s Word and His plan for our lives often depends on seeing the bigger picture — the context. Context reveals meaning, prevents misunderstanding, and helps us live faithfully in every situation. Context is a four-week series that explores how God’s truth comes alive when we see it in the right perspective: in Scripture, in relationships, and in the story of our own lives.
This series will encourage the church to seek God’s perspective, understand the full story, and live with clarity, wisdom, and purpose.
Theme Scripture:
Luke 24:13–35
Week 1

Week 1 — “The Bigger Picture”

Scripture: Luke 24:13–35, Proverbs 3:5–6, Isaiah 55:8–9

Introduction

Life can feel confusing when we only see fragments of what God is doing. Understanding the bigger picture brings clarity, peace, and trust in His plan.

Key Point Ideas

  • God is always working in ways we don’t fully see

  • Perspective changes how we respond to challenges

  • Faith grows when we trust God’s overarching plan

  • Seeing the whole story helps us make wise decisions

Application

  • Identify a situation where you’ve only seen part of God’s plan

  • Ask God to reveal His bigger picture in your life

  • Practice trusting God in the areas you don’t yet understand

Closing Thoughts

Faith thrives when we see beyond the immediate and embrace God’s bigger picture for our lives.

Week 2 — “Context in Scripture”

Scripture: Nehemiah 8:1–8, 2 Timothy 2:15, Acts 17:11

Introduction

The Bible is alive, but misunderstanding Scripture often comes from ignoring context. Studying the background, culture, and meaning reveals God’s truth clearly.

Key Point Ideas

  • Scripture must be read in its historical, cultural, and literary context

  • Proper context prevents misinterpretation and misapplication

  • God’s Word reveals deeper truths when we study diligently

  • Context strengthens faith and equips us for life and ministry

Application

  • Choose a passage and study its context this week using commentaries or study tools

  • Reflect on how understanding context changes your interpretation

  • Share your insight with a friend or small group

Closing Thoughts

Context turns Scripture from confusing words into living, actionable truth.

Week 3 — “Context in Relationships”

Scripture: James 1:19–20, Proverbs 18:13, Colossians 3:12–14

Introduction

Misunderstandings in relationships often come from ignoring context — not knowing someone’s heart, history, or perspective. God calls us to understand before reacting.

Key Point Ideas

  • Listening and seeking understanding prevents unnecessary conflict

  • People’s actions are often influenced by unseen circumstances

  • Empathy and grace flow when we consider context

  • God calls us to walk in love, patience, and understanding

Application

  • Practice listening fully before responding in a conversation this week

  • Ask God to reveal someone’s perspective you may not fully understand

  • Extend grace where context explains a situation differently than you assumed

Closing Thoughts

Understanding context in relationships brings wisdom, peace, and unity.

Week 4 — “Context in Your Story”

Scripture: Romans 8:28, Jeremiah 29:11, Philippians 1:6

Introduction

Your life has chapters, twists, and challenges that may feel confusing now. Context allows you to see God’s hand in every part of your story.

Key Point Ideas

  • God works all things for your good, even when it doesn’t make sense immediately

  • Every season has purpose in the larger narrative of your life

  • Perspective reveals lessons, growth, and God’s faithfulness

  • Trusting God’s context leads to hope, courage, and perseverance

Application

  • Reflect on your current season and ask God to reveal His purpose

  • Journal how past experiences have prepared you for today

  • Encourage someone by sharing how God has written context into your story

Closing Thoughts

Seeing your life in God’s context transforms confusion into hope, clarity, and trust in His plan.
