Series Summary:
God often calls us to leave behind the familiar and commit wholeheartedly to His purpose. This series challenges us to “burn the plows”—to forsake comfort, past failures, and distractions to follow God’s call with radical obedience and unwavering faith.
Theme Scripture:
1 Kings 19:19-21
Week 1

Week 1: “The Call to Leave”

Text: 1 Kings 19:19-21

Introduction:

God’s call often requires us to leave behind what’s comfortable and familiar. Just as Elisha left his plow to follow Elijah, we are called to forsake what holds us back and follow God’s leading with courage.

Key Points:

  • The call to discipleship requires leaving our old ways

  • Obedience begins with surrender

  • God’s call is a summons to a higher purpose

Scripture References:

  • 1 Kings 19:19-21

  • Matthew 4:18-22

  • Luke 9:57-62

Application:

What “plows” do you need to burn in your life to fully follow Jesus? Take practical steps this week to surrender areas where you’ve held back.

Closing Thoughts:

God’s call demands radical obedience. Are you willing to leave behind what’s comfortable to follow Him wherever He leads?

Week 2: “Counting the Cost”

Text: Luke 14:25-33

Introduction:

Following Jesus is costly—it demands everything we have. Jesus calls us to count the cost of discipleship and be willing to sacrifice everything for His sake.

Key Points:

  • Discipleship requires prioritizing Christ above all else

  • The cost of following Jesus includes denying self

  • Jesus is worth any sacrifice we make

Scripture References:

  • Luke 14:25-33

  • Matthew 16:24-27

  • Philippians 3:7-11

Application:

Reflect on what it means to count the cost of following Jesus. Where have you been holding back? Surrender those areas to Him today.

Closing Thoughts:

To follow Jesus is to abandon everything else as less valuable. Count the cost, then embrace the joy of radical obedience.

Week 3: “Faith Over Fear”

Text: Joshua 1:1-9

Introduction:

Fear often paralyzes us from stepping into God’s call. Just as God encouraged Joshua to be strong and courageous, He calls us to trust Him and step forward in faith.

Key Points:

  • God’s promises give us courage

  • Fear is overcome by faith in God’s presence

  • Obedience in the face of fear brings victory

Scripture References:

  • Joshua 1:1-9

  • Isaiah 41:10

  • Hebrews 13:5-6

Application:

Identify areas of fear that have hindered your obedience. Pray for God’s strength to overcome those fears and step out in faith.

Closing Thoughts:

Fear loses its grip when faith takes the lead. Trust in God’s promises and step boldly into His calling.

Week 4: “Fruitful Surrender”

Text: John 15:1-8

Introduction:

Surrendering our lives completely to God’s will results in fruitful lives that honor Him. Jesus calls us to abide in Him, bearing much fruit through our obedience.

Key Points:

  • Surrender leads to spiritual fruitfulness

  • Abiding in Christ requires continual obedience

  • God glorifies Himself through our surrendered lives

Scripture References:

  • John 15:1-8

  • Galatians 5:22-23

  • Colossians 1:9-12

Application:

Commit afresh to abide in Christ daily. Ask Him to prune areas of your life that hinder fruitfulness and surrender fully to His will.

Closing Thoughts:

As we surrender our lives to God, He produces fruit beyond what we could imagine. Abide in Him and bear fruit that lasts.
